” Three years ago, my brother was diagnosed with duodenal adenocarcinoma. He underwent the Whipple surgery right away. After the surgery, the doctor recommended he underwent a six-month chemotherapy in a bid to eliminate cancer cells that might be remaining. The chemotherapy was a nightmare, completely disrupting his appetite and causing severe weight loss. This year, in consideration of the tiny spots in his lungs (suggestive of spread), the doctor recommended again that he underwent another chemotherapy. “I was referred to Sally for my son through a pre-diabetic friend who has seen great results with Sally.
My son has autoimmune/celiac/endocrine issues and was literally off the growth charts in weight and height. I had seen nutritionists for many years who had restricted his food tenfold. It was very difficult for him to gain weight and grow on the almost “weight loss/‘clean’ eating” type plan they had put him on. “I moved to Hong Kong from London, about 18 months for professional reasons. The first few months, I was living in a small service apartment without a proper kitchen and along with the fact that Hong Kong offers a great variety of good restaurants, I ended up eating every day out which “helped” me gain some serious weight. “I am from Argentina and have lived in Hong Kong for almost three years. I met Dietitian Sally Poon at the end of 2015. My main goal was to learn how to eat healthily. But her relaxed approach and determination with tailoring a realistic and ‘doable’ nutritional plan, led me not only to start eating healthily but also helped me lose 20kg in one year and a half. What appeared to be impossible was not at all! I am convinced that her success is based on the fact that she is not the type of dietitian that tries to make you become someone different from who you are, making you feel a loser that will never improve.
Instead, she pragmatically took my habits and suggested some smooth changes that were easy to implement as I emphasise. An eloquent example: “I can understand your love for Japanese food, but instead of ramen, why not having a Vietnamese pho, a healthier broth which I can include in your plan?”. In this way and with simple tips, I didn´t realise how quickly I changed my habits, reduced my portions, learned about new products available in the stores and started losing weight! Mainly with a small reorganization of my everyday life, combined with a daily routine at the gym, which she also supervised.

“My father has diabetes, gout and recently was diagnosed with lung cancer. During his cancer treatment, we also discovered his renal functions were in very poor condition. So much so that we had to suspend his chemotherapy. He was losing weight quickly and going in and out of hospitals.
We reached out to Sally after finding her on the internet. From the first phone call, I was impressed with Sally’s attention to detail and comprehensive understanding. Even prior to our first face-to-face meeting she reviewed all of my father’s medical records and put together a well-prepared plan. She identified how poor my father’s renal functions were and guided us on how to speak to the doctors who up until that point gave us little information. When she met with my mother and she was patient, a good listener and was able to explain things to my mother in a way that she could understand.
